Trump Snubbed From Guest List at DC Funeral Honoring Former VP Cheney

Former Vice President Dick Cheney will be honored at a private funeral in Washington DC, but President Donald Trump will not be there. A senior White House official said Trump was not invited to speak and was not planning to attend.

The service will be held at the National Cathedral and only invited guests will be allowed inside. The White House said Trump was aware of Cheney’s passing and ordered the flags to be lowered, but that was the extent of his public gesture.

Two former presidents will attend the service. George W Bush, who served two full terms in the White House with Cheney as his vice president, is expected to speak. Joe Biden, who served as vice president under Barack Obama and later became president, will also attend.

Bill Clinton will miss the funeral because he already has another event that cannot be moved, though his team said he is praying for the Cheney family. A spokesperson for Barack Obama did not say whether he will attend.

Trump’s absence is not surprising. The Cheney family has had a very tense and bitter relationship with him for years.

Dick Cheney strongly opposed Trump and did not hide his feelings. During the last presidential election, Cheney endorsed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris instead of supporting Trump. He said Trump tried to stay in power through lies and violence after losing the election. Cheney also warned the country that Trump could not be trusted with power again and said Americans must put the nation first before any political party.

Liz Cheney, Dick Cheney’s daughter, also fought against Trump.

She was one of the most outspoken Republicans after the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol. She said Trump encouraged the crowd and helped create the violence that day. She voted to impeach him and later served on the House committee that investigated the attack. Her work made her a target of Trump and his supporters, and she eventually lost her congressional seat to a candidate Trump backed. Because of all this, the relationship between the Cheney family and Trump has remained hostile.

As for the current administration, Vice President JD Vance did not respond when asked if he would attend the funeral. He is scheduled to take part in a public talk hosted by a conservative media outlet on the same morning as the service, which makes it very unlikely he will be there.

This comes after Vance made a small joke about Cheney during a conversation with Robert Kennedy Jr. Kennedy said Cheney seemed to run much of the government during the Bush years, and Vance responded with a laugh, saying that he did not run it very well.

Dick Cheney died on November 3 from health complications, including pneumonia and heart disease. He was 84 years old. His long career included work as a member of Congress, a secretary of defense, and two full terms as vice president. His service will bring together former leaders from both parties.
