President Donald Trump returned from a whirlwind trip to Asia just in time for Halloween at the White House.

Dressed in his usual dark suit and bright red tie, Trump joined First Lady Melania on Thursday evening to hand out candy to costumed children and brought back a move fans remember from 2019.

As Michael Jackson’s β€œThriller” played softly in the background, Trump reached into his basket and patted a child dressed as a marshmallow on the head with a chocolate bar. Then he set the candy on top of the child’s costume and waited.

Instead of grabbing it, the child walked away trying to balance the chocolate bar on his head. The crowd laughed. Trump smiled, clearly pleased. Back in 2019, he went viral for doing the exact same trick with a child in a Despicable Me costume.

β€œThis is a strong granddad move,” one supporter joked as the clip started making rounds online again.

Melania added her own moment of sweetness. When a little girl hesitated to approach the couple, the First Lady bent down, opened her arms, and gently guided her forward. Melania placed a hand on the girl’s cheek and gave her shoulder a reassuring pat. Trump watched, smiling.

At one point, Trump spotted a young boy dressed as himself in a blue suit, red tie, and red MAGA hat. The boy’s friend was dressed as Melania in a chic white coat. Trump grinned, gave the boy a high-five, and said, β€œturn around and pose for a photo.”

The White House steps were lined with jack o lanterns, autumn leaves, and towering pumpkins. The air smelled faintly of chocolate and crisp fall weather. Melania wore a beige trench coat with orange accents. Simple but on theme.

Inside, staffers and their families got first pick of candy. Senior advisor Stephen Miller and his wife, Katie, brought their three children. Their son dressed as a ghost seemed more interested in escaping the candy line than meeting the president. Miller kept pulling him back, smiling awkwardly as the boy wriggled away.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt arrived next with her husband and toddler dressed as a pumpkin. The presidential couple handed over candy bars and posed for a quick family photo.

Music played in the background mixing Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and Pirates of the Caribbean themes with classical strings. For over an hour, Trump and Melania stayed outside greeting kids dressed as astronauts, firefighters, witches, and even a McDonalds worker.

When the event ended, Trump told reporters, β€œI’m not done yet.” Over the music he explained he had a virtual town hall with several state attorneys general that evening.

A White House source later confirmed the president had another event at 7 p.m. despite being awake for nearly 30 hours after his trip through Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea.
