Newly released emails from Jeffrey Epstein suggest that president Donald Trump was aware of Epsteinβs abuse of underage girls β and even spent time with one of the victims. The messages, made public by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee, have ignited a political storm that could rattle the White House for weeks.
In one email from 2011, Epstein told Ghislaine Maxwell that Trump βspent hours at my houseβ with one of his victims. He described Trump as βthat dog that hasnβt barked,β adding that it was curious the then-businessman βhad never once been mentionedβ in the long-running scandal surrounding Epsteinβs sex trafficking network.
If Epstein were still alive, one might imagine him smirking while typing that line. He seemed to know his message would one day cause trouble β and it has.
The Democrats who released the documents say they show that Trumpβs connection to Epstein was deeper than heβs ever admitted. βThe more Donald Trump tries to cover up the Epstein files, the more we uncover,β said California Representative Robert Garcia, the committeeβs ranking Democrat. βThese latest emails and correspondence raise glaring questions about what else the White House is hiding and the nature of the relationship between Epstein and the president.β
A second email, written by Epstein to Trump biographer Michael Wolff in April 2011, paints an even more uncomfortable picture. In that message, Epstein insisted, βTrump said he asked me to resign, never a member ever β¦ of course he knew about the girls as he asked Ghislaine to stop.β
That single line β βof course he knew about the girlsβ β is already echoing through Washington like a bad ringtone that wonβt go away.
The White House has not commented on the new emails, though Trump himself has long denied any knowledge of Epsteinβs crimes. During his first term, he called Epstein βa terrible manβ and claimed theyβd had a falling out βmany years ago.β But these emails seem to suggest that Epstein thought otherwise β and wasnβt afraid to say so.
Ghislaine Maxwell, Epsteinβs long-time associate, is currently serving a 20-year sentence for her role in recruiting and grooming girls for abuse. Epstein killed himself in federal custody in 2019, though conspiracy theories still swirl around his death.
The Democratsβ release of the emails appears designed to force the White House to open what they call βthe Epstein Filesβ β a mysterious trove of government and private records that could shed light on Epsteinβs connections to the powerful. For now, the files remain sealed, and the administration is refusing to release them. That has only added to the speculation.
