β€œWhen the goat butts the fence, it is not the fence that is weak, but the goat that forgets where it stands.”

This old Kipsigis saying feels just right for what went down at the Kutit Culture Event on August 9, 2025. A small misunderstanding quickly turned into a public fight, with a man named Benard Kipkosgei, better known as Pavilion Motiriot, caught on camera beating a woman.

The attack was brutal. The woman lost not only her dignity but also Sh30,000 in cash, her mobile phone, and other personal items during the violent encounter. When the video surfaced online, social media blew up with anger and calls for justice. Kenyans everywhere condemned the behavior, saying violence has no place at cultural events or anywhere else.

The police moved fast. Lang’ata officers tracked down Motiriot soon after the footage went viral. He was arrested and arraigned on August 11, 2025, charged with assault and robbery with violence. Despite the clear evidence, Motiriot pleaded not guilty. The court has scheduled the next hearing for August 18, giving the public time to follow the drama unfold.

The ugly fight started over words, not fistsβ€”at least at first. Motiriot claims the victim, Bella Comedy, a well-known content creator, had been talking badly about him on social media. He says he warned her multiple times to stop spreading what he called lies about him, but she ignored the warnings.

In an audio recording that has since spread online, Motiriot said he tried to talk to her quietly at the event.

β€œI took her to the side to talk, but she started screaming, so I slapped her,” he explained.

There were rumors they got into a car, but Motiriot denied this. He said they just moved to a quieter spot where things went wrong quickly.

This story has stirred strong feelings online. The hashtag #JusticeForBella started trending as many Kenyans demanded that Motiriot be held responsible for his actions.

In Kenya, assault is a criminal offense. If Motiriot is found guilty, he could face fines, jail time, or both. The police have not officially confirmed if Bella has filed a formal complaint, but the arrest and charges have already started important conversations about violence against women. Many advocacy groups are pushing for stronger laws and better protection for victims.

Motiriot, a businessman known in the Kalenjin community, now faces not only legal trouble but also a major hit to his reputation. His violent act has caused many people to lose respect for him.

There’s a lesson here for all of us. That Kipsigis saying warns us to know our placeβ€”especially before we start throwing fists like it’s a boxing match at a festival. Motiriot clearly forgot that rule when he went after Bella. Next time, instead of throwing punches, maybe he should try throwing some cool wordsβ€”or better yet, just take a deep breath and let the booze do the talking. After all, angry fists never solved anything, but a little patience (and maybe some dancing) just might!
