Students across Kenya now have a fresh chance to join the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
On Friday, August 9, KUCCPS announced that the application fee has been cut from KSh 1,500 to just KSh 500. The agency says the move is meant to make it easier for more young people to apply and to encourage them to take up technical skills training.
The new application window runs from August 8 to August 22, 2025. It is open to all KCSE holders from the year 2000 to 2024. Students can apply for diploma, craft certificate, and artisan certificate courses in accredited Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
To join a diploma course, you need at least a C- in KCSE. For a craft certificate, the minimum grade is D. For an artisan certificate, the minimum is E. KUCCPS has made the process fully online through the student portal at students.kuccps.net.
Through this platform, applicants can now choose from a wide range of KMTC programmes. These include popular courses such as Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Diploma in Radiography and Imaging, Diploma in Mortuary Science, Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Diploma in Physiotherapy, and Diploma in Community Health. There are also opportunities in Pharmacy, Public Health, Medical Engineering, Orthopaedic and Trauma Medicine, and Nutrition and Dietetics.
For those looking at certificate courses, there are options like Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nursing, Medical Engineering, Emergency Medical Technician, Orthopaedic Trauma Medicine, Health Records and Information Technology, Community Health Assistance, Public Health, and Nutrition and Dietetics.
The application process is simple. First, visit students.kuccps.net and log in with your KCSE index number, exam year, and password β which is either your birth certificate number or KCPE index number. Next, select βKMTC Programmesβ to view all available courses and their requirements. Once you have made your choice, enter the programme codes in order of preference, then click submit.
KUCCPS says the fee cut is part of a bigger plan to make higher learning more accessible. The agency believes that more students should get a chance to learn hands-on skills that can lead to self-employment or jobs in Kenyaβs growing health sector. βThis is about giving young people a real chance to build their futures,β a KUCCPS official said.
KMTC is a state corporation under the Ministry of Health. It was established through an Act of Parliament and has a long history of training health professionals for Kenya, East Africa, and beyond. The college has 90 campuses spread across the country, offering over 120 medical courses in 18 academic departments.
For many young Kenyans, this fee reduction could be the difference between applying and missing out. With the health sector needing more trained workers, especially in rural areas, this change could help fill a critical gap. It could also give students from low-income backgrounds a better shot at quality training.
